The study was carried out by MZA Ltd, a UK based telecommunications and IT analyst firm. Its Global Telecommunications Market Report (2011 Edition) confirmed that VTech produced more cordless phone base stations than any of its rivals in 2010 overall. Growth was seen in all markets worldwide, particularly in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In Western Europe, the Group had gained the leadership position, where its market share rose from 22% in 2009 to 29% in 2010.
“We are pleased once again to have independent confirmation of our leadership position in the consumer cordless telephony area, which is a testament to our innovation and technology, as well as our ability to seize new opportunities for growth. We continue to increase our presence in consumer phones, while our telephony systems for hotels and for small to medium sized businesses are making good progress,” said Mr. Allan Wong, Chairman and Group CEO of VTech Holdings Limited.
In the financial year ended 31 March 2011, VTech shipped over 45 million handsets and its global sales of telecommunication products reached US$727.5 million. In North America, the Group sells both AT&T and VTech branded products in major retail stores. Outside North America, the Group mainly supplies fixed line telephone operators, well known brand names and distributors on an ODM basis.
Note: The market share is based on the number of base units (base stations) and excludes additional handsets
