VTech Executive Appointed Chairman of DECT Forum

Underlines VTech's strength in cordless communications

Hong KongVTech Holdings Ltd (HKSE: 303) today announced that Andreas Zipp, Director of Technology, Europe at VTech Telecommunications Ltd, has been elected as the new Chairman of the DECT Forum, the Swiss-based international association of the cordless home and enterprise communication industry.

"It is a great honour for me to take over the role as Chairman of the DECT Forum. The wireless communication industry is facing exciting challenges and market opportunities. Key goals for the near future will be to drive CAT-iq adoption and DECT Ultra Low Energy (ULE) as relevant and reliable technologies for a variety of applications worldwide," Mr Zipp said.

Mr Zipp joined VTech in 2006 and is now responsible for broadband business development, new technologies and innovation at VTech Telecommunications. With a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Dortmund University in Germany and an MBA from IMD (International Institute for Management Development) in Switzerland, he has held senior positions in broadcasting systems, multimedia and telecommunications for more than 20 years and he is a frequent speaker at industry events worldwide. He has been a member of the DECT Forum Board since 2008.

"As a pioneer in the cordless communications technology, VTech is committed to driving the adoption and application of new technologies and standards which can enhance people's lives. The DECT ULE standard is ideal for home monitoring and security applications. It delivers all the benefits of DECT, including interference-free communication, long range, excellent voice quality, plug-and-play installation and data rates that support voice, data and video. In addition, however, it uses very little power, which allows typical sensor applications to run for years on nothing more than a couple of batteries," said Mr Chi Hoi Tong, President of VTech Telecommunications Ltd.
